Summer School, Corfu Island 2024 – ‘EU Law in times of crisis’

The 6th Summer School on European Union Law will be organised in Corfu Island on 22-26 July 2024. Applications are now open!

The Summer School is yearly organised, since 2017, in Corfu by the European Law Masters Alumni Association of the Law School of Athens (ELMAA) , in collaboration with the Ionian University of Corfu and the Corfu Bar Association. This year, it covers the topic of ‘EU Law in times of crisis’. More than 10 professors coming from the European Court of Justice, the other EU institutions and European universities and law firms will offer their insight to aprox. 50 participants coming from all over Europe and abroad.

The 5 days of the Summer School

Courses are held in English every morning from 10:00 to 13:30 at the premises of the Ionian University.

Meeting other jurists
Meeting other jurists

Participants get to meet colleagues from different countries during the courses, the Summer School's activities, and the daily dinners offered by the Summer School's organisation.


Accommodation is provided from Sunday 21 to Saturday 27 July at the Sunset Hotel Corfu, located nearby the city centre (10 minutes by bus). Transportation by bus to the lectures and all activities will be provided.

Exploring the island

In afternoons, participants have free time to discover the beauties of Corfu island. 2 beach days, 1 folklore dance night in a Corfiot village, and 1 guide tour will be organised by the Summer School's organising team.

A tour by a professional guide at the historical sites of the city and a presentation of the European history of the island is offered to the participants.

The Summer School’s Opening Ceremony will be held at the event hall of the Corfu Bar Association.

Participants get the chance to meet in person and discuss with judges at the European Court of Justice, civil servants of the EU institutions and professors at European universities.

In between classes, participants take a 30 minutes coffee break to rest, discuss and enjoy a beverage and snacks.

Each of the 5 days of the Summer School, participants and professors eat altogether in restaurants around the city of Corfu.

Applications will be open until all places are booked (see selection criteria below). You can apply by filling out the application form (find it here). Participation fee: The fee is 500 Euros and includes:

1) accommodation at the Sunset Hotel Corfu from Sunday 21 to Saturday 27 July (6 nights) in double rooms (to be shared with another participant of the Summer School),

2) daily breakfast at the hotel,

3) daily coffee-breaks between courses,

4) daily transportation by bus to the Ionian University (where courses are being held) and to the places where the Summer School’s social activities will take place, namely (the exact day of each activity might change):

i. opening ceremony in the evening of Monday 22.7

ii. 2 beach days in the afternoons of Tuesday 23.7 and Thursday 25.7

iii. 1 guide tour in Corfu Town in the evening of Wednesday 26.7

iv.  1 folklore dance night in a village of Corfu island on Friday  27.7

5) the Summer School’s material and

6) one meal each day at a restaurant from Monday 22 to Friday 27 July.

*Therefore, it does not include your travel expenses to and from Corfu.

Cancellation of participation is possible until 1 May 2024 (return of 80% of the fee). Any fee already paid will not be returned after that day.


Reduced rates: A rate of 450 Euros applies to applicants who also have already or will participate in the Capri School of European Procedural Law (see below). 

You can also apply for a fee of 100 Euros if you are only interested in participating in the Summer School without accommodation and nutrition (you will only receive the Summer School’s material and enjoy our coffee-breaks).


Selection criteria: Applicants will be selected on a ‘first comefirst served’ basis in conjunction with a quality assessment of their application. For that reason, applicants will be selected on a rolling basis and will be informed of the status of their application within max. 20 days after the latter’s submission. Once all places are booked, we will announce the closure of the application procedure. We warmly welcome applications from young (trainee) lawyers, LLM and (post) doctoral students, while also keeping a certain number of places for motivated undergraduate students.

Affiliation with the Capri School of European Procedural Law: Since last year, our Summer School is proudly collaborating with the School organised in Capri and Naples by the Capri School of European Procedural Law.

Working in synergy, and with the aim of providing complementary knowledge of EU law, the two summer schools are coordinating their subjects, Capri School being dedicated on procedural aspects of EU law, while Corfu Summer School on its substantial aspects, and are offering a preferential rate for those attending both schools.
